Mitsubishi’s first electric vehicle was the Mitsubishi i-MiEV which debuted in 2009. It arrived in the U.S. in 2012 as the Mitsubishi i. It was an immediate award winner with the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy naming it the Greenest Vehicle of the Year.

The PHEV works in two ways. While driving around town, whether running errands or commuting to work, the electric battery is in full use. Once you’re out in the suburbs or driving long distances, whether for work or pleasure, hybrid technology takes over. PHEV automatically switches modes based on driving conditions and remaining battery life, leaving you free to focus on the road.

Outlander PHEV
You don’t have to sacrifice power or driveability with the Outlander PHEV. It seats up to seven with three rows, which can be folded down when you have fewer passengers and more cargo. With a factory-installed towing package, you can tow up to 1,500 pounds, including most pop-up campers or a trailer with ATVs or jet skis.
The EV battery can travel up to 38 miles on a full charge. Charging time varies based on the charging level you choose. With Level 1 charging, it takes up to eight hours for a full charge and up to four hours with Level 2 charging. If you choose the available DC Fast Charging, you can get an 80 percent charge in 25 minutes. The Outlander PHEV uses regenerative braking to charge the battery while you drive.

Mitsubishi didn’t stop winning awards with the Mitsubishi i. S&P Global Mobility recognized Mitsubishi for “Most Improved Alternative Powertrain Loyalty to Make for 2023” because customers who purchase the Outlander PHEV love it so much, that they keep coming back. Other awards for the Outlander PHEV include the IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2023, the 2024 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award for Best Small Utility, and the 2024 Family Green Car of the Year from Green Car Journal.
